Getting into the groove.....

I am a big clumsy jeounalist, with tones of ideas but a little hesitant and lazy. I will do more of it as soon as I buy that lovely small labtop which I can carry to coffee shops and film festivals. I am also into doing some web-videos, telling visual stories.

Editing is my profession and job. I love it because it fulfills my sense of storytelling and my obsession with moving images and sound. I will do more of it as soon as I get that storage room set up for my system in the new apartment.

It's Spring It's Spring It's Spring

Oh, how nice can be Toronto! A little rain, smell of spring, and delicate sunshine. You can indulge yourself with a light jacket and skirt and freely walk in the streets. No more worring about icy cold going throuhg your skin and freezing your whole body.
Nane Sarma is gone for good. Looking forward for the nice days to come...

Proud to be Iranian?

I know Iran has "western media" for crust's sake. I know that it doesn't make a good impression on people (no matter how much they are politically correct) to say that you are Iranian. But I say it. And I still feel proud when I say it. I hope I can continue to be proud. Every thing seems to change so drastically regarding Iran's situation in the world. I can't believe that this unfavorable change is happening right in front of my eyes and I can't do anything about it. It's like going bankrupted or falling into a serious illness. It happens all at once and you can't do anything about it.

Hidden woman

In the old apartment of my parents, I had a room and a computer with a Microsoft Word Farsi on it and the most pleasant treat for me was to sit on that comfortable brown chair in front of my computer and write. I was writing in different genres. From short stories, to emotional diaries and long format screenplays. Nobody ever read what I was writing at that time. Occasionally I was using parts of my writings in my articles or customizing my screenplays to some proposals for TV series, all of which were written based on "request" and therefore I didn't care much about them. I never finished a personal piece of writing which I could show to other people. I needed more "life experience" to be able to write a real script. That's how I thought of imigration. I wanted to experience the freedom of being on my own. The freedom of having no censorship. The freedom of growing myself in all aspects.
As an immigrant, I don't have much outlet the same as I had in Iran. Would I use this blog for that purpose? Maybe, but it deprives me from the idea of being "hidden" which has been essential for my personal writings. In my hidden way of writing, I guess I was carrying the inheritance of being an eastern woman with mysteries. It is contradictory for this woman when she lives in a society in which she doesn't get any credit for being "hidden". Maybe it is time for her to change...

My first thoughts...

In Iran it was so easy to talk..
It was so easy to make friends...
It was so easy to get noticed...
It was so easy to get recognized...
It is such a refreshment to meet the motherland after a while, when you have been challanged in a new country.

new job

I am leaving SunTV for a new job at CTV. Well, it is more of what I like and it is very close to where I live and it is a better opportunity in general. But I miss the nice friends and colleagues that I have here at SunTV. I have worked here for two and a half years (my mom won't believe that. I use to be too fanciful to work for one place for more than 6 to 9 months). But I guess this is the reality of life in North America and I have to get use to it. Oh... I am excited for the new job... Some change finally!

Syrianna

I certainly suck in writing weblog because I can not keep it consistant. Thanks to all of you nice readers who ask me why I am not writing that often. Ok, yesterday I saw Syrianna. A fabulous movie. It represents a very insightful point of view on the Middle East crisis and oil. It follows four characters and four stories at the same time which makes it a little hard to pursue. However, if you be patient enough, by the time you get into the middle of the story, you will be totally into it.
Honestly, this is the first time that I felt some respect for George Clooney. I wonder if he has any Arabian roots because he speaks Arabic so well. In an interview he said that he acts in some movies to buy a house and in some movies to fulfill himself. I didn't know that he was so progressive. Matt Damon is good as usual and others... oh I should read more on this director Stephen Gaghan.
Anyway, please don't miss it. It is one of the best political movies that is made about the Middle East and oil and Americans. And yes, there IS some Tehran scenes. Althoug it is a faked Tehran and it looks more like Damascus or an American Latin city, but close enough, no complain. And Iranians are quite a character in the movie although we don't see much of them. Go see it. I highly recommand.

A Midfall's Night Dream

Oh, I have so much to say and yet it is hard to write...

Maybe, writing about the stories of three women, coming from the same highschool; close friends who have lost each other for years. Now, they come to see each other again. All have different stories, different lives, different journies. Yet they have amazing similarities. They all have gone through ups and downs, good days and bad days... and they all have come to the final stage... far from the carefree days of highschool, they now have to face with their destiny. The whole truth. And the responsibility of being full mature women.

Oh, by the way, I am a Canadian citizen now. And I have my driver's licence, too. Big victories! I feel like I am more mobile. I can go and drive around this big planet. But it is maybe a dream. Because I am in fact got stuck in a job living in the cold fall of Toronto. This might be my destiny, eh?

time and happiness

- Why didn't I update my blog?
- Because I didn't have time.
- Why didn't I have time?
- Because I had too much to do.
- Why did I have too much to do?
- Because I thought I had to keep myself busy. Because I felt I had a mission to do some projects, call here and there, do this and that.

But, is it really necessary? Today, I got this message from my father in Iran: "The only thing I want from you is to be happy. I know you are a hard worker. I hope you can make some time for yourself to see the results and be happy."

Tongiht I promissed to myself that whenever I get those special free moments, instead of rushing to this and that, wait a little, take some time, think of what I would really enjoy to do at that moment, and do it. No matter what my plans are and what I had decided to perform for that day.

Fall

The cold weather is coming. It is a beautiful fall, the trees shine with yellow and red leaves. But you can't stay out without a coat. A snapshot of a long and cold winter. Another six months of freezing in the snow, looking at the gray sky and hibernate in a room with a hot cup of tea may be?

Filmmaking

It's been a long time since I have not made a new film. I have done some small things here and there but not a real film. Mostly because I was so busy moving to Canada and making my living in here. I was also not quite sure if I really wanted to accept all the hassels and joys of filmmaking or I wanted to be a good girl and have a normal life like everyone else.

Today I finally came to the conclusion that filmmaking is my way of life. I really love doing it no matter how hard it is. Even if I don't get to actually make them, just being in the process of picking an idea, developing it, and trying to make it interesting for potential funders/audience is an amazing process that I really enjoy doing it. So, why not?

This is a moment of getting focused on what I really want. From now on, it doesn't matter if I actually get to make any movie (documentary in the case of Canada). The significant thing is that I will be trying to do it.

heroin addicts

These days I am hearing a lot of horrible news regarding abusing drugs among Iranian youth. I know that some young people tend to abuse drugs everywhere in the world including West... marijuana, grass, weed is kind of common here... ok...but what about heroin?... it is a true danger for life. It is not something that people can get involved so easily in here. And yes, many Iranians, rich and poor, girls and boys are addicted to heroin...

So, where this sense of self-destruction is coming from? Why Iranian youth is so submissive and passive? Why instead of dealing with their problems, they are taking drugs? Why are they so willing to lose their lives? Why life is so cheap over there? Every one blames the system. ok... but system is made of all of us, isn't it? And moreover, taking drugs is a personal choice.

busy busy busy

I have got a new project which is not owned by "capitalists" but it is even against them! It is a documentary that happens in Chilie. A war between an aboriginal tribe and the land owners. Sounds that I have to get up early to edit that and then go to work to edit the rest of the stuff! No more time for myself, no more time for updating my blog!

1- Rye Bread
2- Barley
3- Multi Grain
4- Whole Grain
5- Barley Bread
6- Oat
7- Oat Meal
8- Oak
9- Alfalfa

The One

When he is always there and never goes away
When he says he loves you and doesn’t change his way
When he knows you beyond what you portray
When he loves you more than what he would convey
And…
If he admires you when you are not aware
If he is the one to think of at times of despair
If he gives you more than what you prepare

Then he must be the one… here, there and ever after
